Head of the Laboratory of Cell Culture at the Institute of Cardiology at Lithuanian University of Health SciencesVytenis A.Skeberdis graduated from Kaunas University of Technology in 1982. He received his PhD and habilitated doctor degree in biophysics in 1992 and 2006, respectively, from Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, where he currently is a head of the Laboratory of Cell Culture at the Institute of Cardiology and a professor at the Institute of Physiology and Pharmacology. V.A.Skeberdis has performed 2-year postdoctoral studies at the Faculty of Pharmacy, South University of Paris (Paris, France) and more than 3 years in total worked at the Department of Neuroscience, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Yeshiva University (New York, USA). His current research activities are focused on the intercellular communication through gap junctions and membranous tunneling (nano)tubes; tissue engineering and cellular therapy; regulation of cancer cell division. He has published his works in the top peer reviewed journals, such as Nature Neuroscience, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the USA, the Journal of Clinical Investigation, and others. V.A.Skeberdis is a winner of Lithuanian National Science Award in 2008.
